Thanks to this system, you can visit every corner of the country and intercity high speed train (Shinkansen), you can easily cover long distances in a very short time. Who Can Get The Japan Rail Pass?

Japan Rail Pass is just for tourists. Therefore, you should have the “touristic visitor” stamp on your passport. If you have another stamp( for example; business visitor stamp), you will not get a Japan Rail Pass. This is also valid for Japanese citizens,if Japanese citizens have the right to leave permanently to another country or married with someone from a foreign nation.However this also needs to be proved by a document, only by these ways they can be eligible for a Japan Rail Pass. How to Purchase?

You should purchase your Japan Rail Pass from your home country, not from Japan. In Turkey, H.I.S tourism is the only authorized agency for Japan Rail Pass. If you wish to purchase your Japan Rail Pass by going to offices or via online, it is enough to transmit your name and surname information in the same way as your passport during the purchase process. No other papers or documents are required.

How Does the Ticket Reach?

You purchase a temporary ticket (Exchange Order) from H.I.S Tourism. You need to bring this temporary ticket in use at JR offices located at the airport or train stations when you arrived to Japan. In the meantime, a form is given to you, you will write your name, surname, passport number and date ranges on this form. When you submit the form and temporary ticket to the official, the official will deliver your Japan Rail Pass.

The Useful Information About Japan Rail

  1. In all JR stations, station names are displayed in both Japanese and Latin letters. In the middle of the sign board, the station name is indicated in capital letters, and the previous and next stations are listed in lower case letters.
  2. Shinkansen and some limited express trains have public telephones that activate with a phone card. You can buy phone cards at the ticket office at the train station.
  3. In big stations, there are very popular coin-lockers. If you want to use them, do not forget to bring at least 100 Japanese Yen’s with you.
  4. On the Shinkansen and other long-distance trains, food packages, snacks and drinks are sold in portable ways. In Japan, this is called the ‘Ekiben’. Ekiben are offered to passengers on a mobile tray, and there are also buffets at the stations.
  5. In large cities, there is an extreme intensity during rush hours during these hours (7:30-9.30 a.m and 17.00-19.00 p.m), as an advice from us to those who don’t want to travel.
